anyone had or have shoulder problems such as torn rotor cuff, frozen shoulder, tendinitis, etc. that required treatment for pain and range of motion. other then surgery what was any treatments that worked. something like prolotherapy or cortisone shots, etc. physical therapy is highly touted, but never worked for me (only aggravated the pain). thanks for any help on this.
I was diagnosed with tendonitis with impingement in both of my shoulders. So far I’ve had 2 rounds of physical therapy, 3 cortisone shots, and 1 round of oral steriods. I’m still in extreme pain. What else can be done? My neck and upperback are starting to hurt as well. I’ve been taking naproxen not helping. All started about two months ago, continuing to get worse.
Ok, here is my situation that I never thought would ever be. I have been with my primary doctor for about 12 years now, and I thought she knew me well. I even thought of her as more of a friend. Over the last 3 years, I started having some major problems with my lower back, shoulders, and neck. So she set me up with a mri which did show a bulging disc. She sent me to physical therapy, and the shock treatment really helped, she also prescribed hydrocodone 5 that I had only had to take for a month, because I responded well with therapy. So about a year goes by and not having that much pain, I could take over the counter meds to suppress it. Then like lightning it strikes again. This time it gets so bad that my leg gives out on me and hurts. I can’t sleep for days, and only certain things I did could give enough relief to where I was not screaming in pain. So I go back to her with all of this and she sets up another mri, which then shows two bulging disc and a hurniated disc. She again prescribes the same pain med and sets me up with the physical therapy which I am excited for because it helped before. This time it did not, and the therapyst said that my pelvic joint was popping out of my hip joint. So my doctor prescribes me a long acting pain med named kadian. I took it and it made me itch bad, so she prescribed claritin to help with the itch. Umm, needless to say, I will always have scars on my chest from digging. So she then started me on 20m of oxycontin for two weeks, and 40m for the next two weeks. It was amazing relief after the puking for a couple days. I am amazed on what I can do now that I have not been able to do for a while. So the refill time comes and no problems I get my refill. About three weeks later, I find out that a family member is dying of cancer in another state and he was refusing hospice so it was up to us family members to go take care of him in his final days. So my turn of course was up and I call the office the day before leaving to see if they can send my prescription to me when it was due to be filled. Mind you I was without a vehicle this day and in a hurry to get things ready to leave. They tell me that they can not do that, and I said well, that is ok because I have to come back to the state for my bone scan anyway and I would just drive the extra 2 hours back home to see them. My doctor calls back and says I need to come in for a pill count. I had no problem with that other than I had no vehicle, and not ride and they closed in 2 hours, and I was told that she would not longer prescribe them unless I came in that day. She then tells me that I could come in the following day before leaving. I said ok that is fine I will just have my ride swing me by. Well low and behold that night we get a call for all family members to come immediately, my uncle was not going to make it through the night. We all left within an hour, me not thinking twice, just knowing that my doctor would understand. So after the funeral and all, I come back home, and call my doctor and explain, she said that is fine I understand. So, I get my next refill on the 12th of June. I had an appointment to go back to my neurosurgeon yesterday to read my results which quite frankly was devistating to me. Basically I have bad joints, degenerative disc disease, and my bone scan made me light up like a christmas tree. So I drive home crying most of the way. I look on my calendar and see where I had a doctors appointment scheduled for today with my primary doctor which was just going to be going over the same thing I went over with my ns. But I decided I needed to go anyway. So I wake up this morning and guess what my car will not start at all. I hurry up and call in to reschedule my app. My doctor knowing that I just said my car broke down again, demanded me to make my appointment or she would not fill anymore meds ever. I can’t make the appointment, I have no vehicle. I have never had to sign a contracts or agreement with her, but she said that I broke the contract. I never had to sign one. I was unaware that people even had to do this, I just always assumed that my doctor would know me after 12 years of never trying to get meds. I am devistated and hurt that my doctor was so mean and accusing on the phone. At my appointment yesterday, I was told to get a breast reduction and see a chiropracter regularly, and to continue my pain meds, and he was referring me to a pm doctor. I am just wondering if I am still going to be without what I have been used to for 2 months while I am going through the steps with the pm doctor. I have enough to last me until the 12th of August, but I am not sure how it will look to go in to the pm doctor and say this is what my old doctor has me on, but she is not going to give them to me anymore. What should I expect or do?
I had surgery for a herniated disc (L4-L5) a year or so ago. I also have borderline medium Idiopathic scoliosis. Not to mention I have the worst posture on this planet. I feel like a hard back brace may be nice. My back aches a lot, and gets tired easily, even after year+ of physical therapy. Would a hard back brace be an option? would it help? (I know you’re not my doctor but I still want your input). Is it something to ask my doctor or am I way off?
Just random other info
I’m kinda on the tallish side (5’6ish) and I am in high school.
Also I understand a brace could be a pain and inconvenient to wear but I don’t mind. I kinda see it as a protective shell almost.
Anyways um thanks.
I would know a pinched nerve and that has nothing to do with a back brace… >.<
I’ve had the same deep tissue knot underneath my shoulder blade for a couple of months now, and also pain in my neck on the same side. My neck hurts so bad that some days I can’t turn it all the way. I’ve also got a dull ache in my forearm on the same side and some tingling.
I finally made an appointment with the doctor on Wednesday and I’m curious as to what she might say or prescribe?
I’ve been to physical therapy for a similar instance years ago, and it did NOTHING.
My mom gave me a flexiril (sp) and it just made me fall asleep. I need something that will not effect work! Motrin does not seem to do much for me, and either does the heating pad.
I guess what I’m really asking is, what has worked for you? Which med should I ask for? What kind of treatment should I ask for?
My shoulders are bad! They pop in and out in everything i do. I cant even do my hair without having my shoulder out of place. I have already been to physical therapy and it just made it way worse.Eventually i will be getting surgery but for now does anybody know anything i can do or a brace i can get to keep my arms connected to my body!?!
HELP!?!?!
i have been to the doctor and he said physical therapy..since that made it worse the next step is surgery. My only problem with that is im only 15 and if i get the surgery now..am i gonna need to get it again in my life? Im also a hardcore softball player so that doesnt help me at all. Do u think i should just quit what i love doing and get the surgery now or later?
I’m 16 years old and been having really bad back pain for about a few months now. I’m in special ed and have never been diagnosed with anything else besides elhers danlos syndrome or something, week muscle tone and just the basic symptoms of that. I have a learning disability, but anyway, about a year ago I saw an orthopedic about my back, they did exrays and it showed a slight curve but nothing huge, they call it kyphosis? or something. Well Starting a few months ago I got extremely bad pain and just hurts doing anything, walking a lot, bending, sitting in one position a long time, standing a long time. It’s torture..well I saw the orthopedic again, the curve has stayed the same not gotten worse, my growth plates they say are closed pretty much. If I were to grow more the curve could change but I’m not. They don’t wanna suggest surgery yet. They think trying everything else first is best. So Ive just recently started Physical therapy. My prob is my posture, I’ve sat so long curved over that my back is so tight and their having trouble loosing it… That’s why I’m getting this pain. I’ll constantly text my mom from school hurting, or end up in tears from pain. But they didn’t recommend pain med, that wont work, If something was inflamed then maybe that would work. But My mom gave me med, she’s a nurse, but that still didn’t help. The physical therapist is working with me and giving me these types of exercises to work on. 2 to 3 times per day. Hopefully it will help. But this pain is sucky.. They also suggested that I could possibly need a customized chair. What hurts miserably is when I’m in school. Each class 90 minutes, you sit. The chairs are horrible. Instead of focusing on work I’m thinking about how much I’m hurting. I wear this lumbar support brace at the moment, but it’s not helping much. It sorta Velcro’s around, not too great. But I was wondering what they mean by a customized chair.. to use at home and school…like wheel in it? or .. push.. don’t know if it’s portable… not sure what they meant by it. Not a wheelchair.. so I’m wondering what a customized chair is.. anyone know? and if pt doesn’t help withen 6 weeks or such we’ll get an Mri done and make sure there’s nothing more causing this pain. Surgery could be an option in the long run, but they wanna try everything before suggesting that.It would be great to hear some feedback on this. I’m having trouble with pain and it’s really bugging me. Thanks

I have been in moderate to severe pain for 4 1/2 years and I’ve been to doctors, physical therapy, orthopedic specialists, and I’ve had countless x-rays done, one MRI, and one MRI with a saline injection but the only thing that has shown up is inflamation. . They have rulled out a rotator cuff tear, fractures, and labrel tear. Can anyone tell me what else it could possibly be or what type of treatment may work so that I can discuss it with my doctor.
I have tried all kinds of over the counter meds like naproxen, asprin, ibuprofene, and aciphetomen (I know I spelled it wrong) I have also tried icy hot, biofreeze, and some prescription meds like vicoten, percocet, oxycoden, and valum and none of them worked. They did electotherapy and sonogram treatment too.I did try applying ice and massage therapy and those are the only things that sort of helped. The ice helped the most with the inflamation and the massage therapy helped with the range of motion and slightly with the pain but it’s still very painful.
3 Months ago I had fell water skiing and my back got bent outwards (i guess you could say hyper-extended??) I was in a horrible amount of pain and couldn’t stand up straight and very sore. I went immediately to the emergency room and an x-ray was taken. They said their was a slight abnormality in a vertebrae and they then had me get a CT scan. That came up inconclusive (they said it was just my natural bone structure). For the first 3 weeks I was unable to function normally. The pain faded from all over my back and ended up just being concentrated in a focused spot of my lower back. I went to physical therapy and they gave me a back brace to wear had me do several stretches to strengthen my core. The stretches did not really help, but the back brace was fairly useful, but after taking it off I’d be in more pain because I feel my back grew to rely on it to keep posture. For the most part, I am now able to go about daily life with no problem; however, If I am doing a lot of bending up/down, lifting, or sitting hunched over at a desk, it will be sore and decently uncomfortable. For example, the lifting and constant bending up and down doing laundry the other day caused a good amount of pain. It made it very difficult to stand back up from being bent over, as well as a constant soreness while in a neutral position. This faded a day or so later. At any point, i am able to reproduce a focused pain on demand if I bend my back outward…this causes a soreness (pressure) around my spine in a spot on my lower back about 3 or 4 inches above my tail bone. At no time have I had a shooting pain that goes up my spine or down my legs (common question at doctors). They haven’t been able to determine exactly what the problem is and resorted to saying that its most likely some muscle.
After the initial fix of the pain, I do not feel that it will ever get past this point and get back to normal. I also am concerned that no conclusion could be drawn. I have only been to the emergency room and a sports doctor, but never a back specialist (have an appointment for a few weeks from now). I am wondering what could be wrong. Could it be a disc or vertebrae irregularity? a misalignment? some sort of ligament or muscle damage? Would an MRI be able to show what the CT scan didn’t? Also, I’m not sure the qualifications of the doctor that reviewed my CT scan. Would the back specialist draw better conclusions from this? In all reality, iss there anything that can be done through surgery to fix this? or is it a waiting game or back pain I will have for the rest of my life.
