I’m thirteen. I’ve been slouching for the past 3 years and my mom constantly yells at me to straighten my back. I have worn two types of back braces, both off the rack which I know you are not supposed to do but my mom refuses to listen to the doctors. They both worked temporarily- only when I was wearing them. They were also extremely uncomfortable often leaving painful red and purple marks on my armpits that went away after a few weeks that I stopped wearing them. I’ve been to 3 doctors. The first two checked my back and said that I had scoliosis. When I went to a doctor that specified in scoliosis, he said that I didn’t and even took an x-ray that confirmed it. My mom would not believe this and the doctor said my bad posture would go away because normally people around my age are insecure thus why they have bad posture and other things I don’t remember. Every time I straighten my back, my chest becomes constricted and it becomes harder for me to breathe and also painful. My mom always tells me I look like a shriveled up old woman, a shrimp, a turtle and a hunch back. I’ve worn plastic boned corsets that obviously didn’t work to straighten my back. We have considered buying me a steel corset but not for waist training.
Giving up is not an option obviously and I HAVE tried straightening my back for months on end and nothing worked. My current posture is very comfortable for me whereas straightening it is painful (but as my mom says, pain is beauty). Recently I haven’t cared about slouching or not slouching, which is why my mom wants me to wear a brace again and it is PAINFUL. I have had health problems that the doctor could not diagnose (lower abdomen pain) a year ago. It disappeared but has come back. I also have on/off extreme dieting. I also rarely have burns/aches in my chest for unknown reasons.
I appreciate any reasonable help. Thanks in advance.
right in between my spine and my neck, there is this curve and it looks like a hump and even though my doctor said it was normal i think it looks horrible. is there a way to get rid of this without expensive back braces?
I am 24 years old with the WORST posture. When I am sitting in a chair I am almost completely humped over. When I think about it and try to sit up it hurts my back from having my spine straight since my body is not used to it.
My father has a slipped disks and fractured vertebrae in his back and is schedule for his 2nd surgery. I know it is important for me to have good posture but I find it almost impossible!
How can I improve my posture? Do you know of any back braces or anything to improve spine alignment?
Also, don’t just stay stand up straight because that is easier said than done. Thanks!
hi am still very young and ever since i will little i would always slouch to the point to where it became natural….i lift weights already and im pretty toned… i know i can do yoga, but does anyone know if back braces actually work?
I have really bad posture, and no matter how hard I try to remember to sit up straight, or "stop slouching," I always end up hunching over. Whether I sit down, stand up, walk, etc., my shoulders are always hunched forward, making my torso appear shorter, as well as adding to lack of appeal to my appearance.
I was wondering of those back braces can really "train" your muscles so you can get into the habit of maintaining posture. Or perhaps there are specific exercises for this? Any input would help, thanks.
I slump ALOT! My friends are always like sit up! And I cant help it! Standing or sitting straight is uncomfortable. And plus I’m realllly skinny and it makes my look odd.
Any back braces you’ve heard of?
